Salzburg fortress trip, part one

I asked John what he enjoyed most from our trip and one of his favorite things was visiting the Salzburg fortress, which we did a week ago Monday. You can’t miss it from anywhere in the city–extremely useful as a landmark to any confused travelers, like ourselves. I always felt like I couldn’t really get lost in Salzburg……just turn around enough til you find the fortress, and then you know where you are.

You can walk up, but we did it the easy way.

There’s the whole city, spread out below.

They claim that this is the best-preserved fortress in Europe. It’s been here for over a thousand years.

…….which makes me think of “the songs they have sung, for a thousand years……ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh…..”
Serious bribery was necessary to achieve this photo, taken in the small marionette museum inside the fortress.

Sound of Music marionettes. We wanted to take the younger girls to the marionette theater, but didn’t get tickets in time. We needed a 2 o’clock performance due to our bus schedule, but ten days before our departure, they were all sold out. I really regret that.

Trying them out.

To be continued…..
