Boat monkey

Elizabeth has progressed from zero boat skills to rowing down the equivalent of our street in the rowboat entirely under her own power. (Don’t worry, the boat is tied to the dock in this picture. She always has someone else with her when actually rowing.) Yesterday she rowed down the canal and I rowed back. She did significantly better than I did and as I struggled, she said sympathetically, “Do you want me to do it for you, Mom?”

Margaret has the honor of being the first in the family to fall into the canal. She was getting into the boat with Elizabeth, turned around to grab the dock. It was too far away and she fell in. She reports that the water felt warm and disgusting. Very marshy and slimy. I don’t think it will be something any of us will want to deliberately repeat, but it was an interesting experience.
