Ossenzijl

Margaret and I biked into Ossenzijl today. In the process we came close to riding up a drawbridge as it opened to let a sailboat through. The bridges open and close constantly. During our short trip we saw it happen four times to two different bridges as various large boats came through.

Ossenzijl is tiny and charming. The little canal side market was closed today, but as we anticipated, we’ll need to go elsewhere for anything but the bare minimum, since this store is miniscule. Yesterday Tim, Katherine and Margaret took the bus back into Steenwijk to get more supplies since our bus tickets were good for the whole day. This turned out to be a very wise move.

On the way home today we noticed an older couple who had stopped their bikes and were gazing into the marsh at two storks! It was like The Wheel on the School come to life.
