This isn’t Shora

About a year ago, I read Meindert de Jong’s wonderful children’s novel, The Wheel on the School, out loud with Elizabeth. That was probably my third time through it with the various kids and it never loses its charm.

The plot line revolves around the schoolchildren in a Dutch fishing village and their ultimately successful attempts to bring storks back to Shora. Since Shora has no trees, this is a difficult task. Spanga, however, has plenty of trees and is a stork sanctuary. This morning the oldest and youngest biked over to see it. My personal stork count for the trip is nineteen, but I went through Spanga yesterday, too. I just don’t get tired of them.
